DAVID PALLETT Memorial Golf Tournament
Dear Friends of David Pallett:
We are excited to announce an opportunity to honor David, his life, his work and his passion for Hockey. Mark your calendars for our first “David Pallett Memorial Golf Tournament” at Piper’s Heath Golf Club on Monday, September 30, 2013. Proceeds from the tournament will go directly towards the “David Pallett Hockey Scholarship” at the University of Guelph. The scholarship will be awarded to a student-athlete that shows exceptional promise and leadership in and plays hockey at the University of Guelph.
David graduated from OAC in 1967 from the University of Guelph. David was an accomplished athlete. He played varsity hockey at the University of Guelph for 5 years and captained the team in 1965-66 and 1966-67. He received several awards for his accomplishments in sports. After graduating with a B.Sc. in agriculture in 1967, he worked for OMAF for several years before returning to the family business, Pleasant View Farms.
Pleasant View Farms was more than just a business to David. It was here that he mentored the many youth who gained their first work experience under Dave’s wise tutelage. Many still use the valuable lessons learned at Pleasant View in their lives today. Pleasant View was also a place for families to come together, escape the City, and create wonderful memories. Many still remember their visits to the farm to see the animals, to search for pumpkins, to hunt for Easter eggs, or to find the family Christmas trees. People not only loved his farm for the plants they purchased but also for the unique experience it gave them, all located in the heart of central Mississauga. This was all part of David’s passion for family, youth and community.
David maintained this passion for his 45 glorious years as a Rotarian. David was the very embodiment of the Rotary motto: “Service Above Self” and received five Paul Harris Awards recognizing his contribution to the community particularly his work with youth through the Rotaract program. Not only through his involvement in the Rotary Club but in his everyday life, David demonstrated his commitment to help those in need both locally and globally. He inspired many of us.
He lived a life of peace and extended this spirit to others with every handshake, smile, or kind gesture. By participating in this golf tournament, you can help carry on his work of helping others.
