Throughout Peel Region, more than 25,000 students face barriers related to poverty that prevent them from fully participating or succeeding in school.
These are students who lack everyday necessities like regular meals, warm clothing, hygiene items and school supplies. A growing number don’t even have permanent housing and are living in shelters.  Last year, the Peel Learning Foundation helped more than 3,174 students with support for groceries, clothing, toiletries, medical supplies, eyeglasses and transportation. Rotary Club of Mississauga is proud to support these efforts.

Letter to RCOM from the Peel Learning Foundation

Dear Janette and friends at the Rotary Club of Mississauga –
On behalf of the Peel Learning Foundation and the students we serve, I would like to thank
you and your organization for your very generous donation of $1,500 for the Student
Emergency Needs Program.

Every day, the Foundation receives dozens of requests from school staff to support
students who are in desperate need of food, clothing, school supplies and other essential
items. These students are unable to fully participate in their education because they lack
basic necessities. Students like this:

“The child is a JK student for whom this is his first school experience. He does not
have any of the basic school supplies yet however, even more pressing for the family,
is the difficulty they have in providing him with food for his lunches, appropriate
clothing and footwear.”

As more students and their families struggle to meet their basic needs, requests for
support from the Student Emergency Needs Program continues to increase.
In response, the Foundation has launched the Hopeful Tomorrows Campaign to ensure
that we can continue to say ‘yes’ to every student in need.

Your donation to this campaign, will allow us to provide students with support for food,
clothing, transportation, hygiene products and other necessities they need to be their best
and achieve their best:
“The funds were used in purchasing warm clothing and boots for both the students.
This has greatly helped the students in staying warm walking to school and home, as
well as during the nutrition breaks.”

Thank you for bringing hope to Peel students in need.

Sincerely,
Brian Hobbs
