Over 100 Grade 6-8 students came to the Port Credit Secondary School on Friday April 24th to participate in a Hackathon competition, organized and mentored by PCSS high school students with the guidance of teacher Hanna Kim.
This Hackathon competition challenged the students to come up with an educational plan for the future that would involve coding. They are given a time period to do this and the judges decide on the best plan. Students worked in teams and were buzzing with excitement to get working on their projects.
The Rotary Club of Mississauga was a proud sponsor of this event, providing prizes for the winners and lunch and snacks for all. Lorraine Crow RCOM Director of CSC was invited to open up the hackathon. Lorraine spoke about the values and mission of Rotary and the many fundraising efforts, and programs, we have in the city with volunteer opportunities. Lobsterfest, Ribfest, Camp Enterprise, Trillium Hospital Campaign and more.
Heather Kellestine, President of Mississauga West Rotary was on hand to talk about their Interact club at PCSS and how to get involved.
Congratulations to PCSS for hosting this Hackathon competition, building self esteem, confidence, leadership and computer coding skills among the participants.
