Rotary Peace Program

Peace - It Begins With You

"Our role as civil society leaders who wage Positive Peace will continue to expand, not only through partnerships and more grants, but also through our hearts, minds and hand as we offer our gifts to make the world a better place."

Ravi Ravindran….

Past Rotary International President

Proclaimed in 1917, Rotary's goal of worldwide peace and tolerance has been an unwavering pursuit: conducting global forums, hosting international peace symposiums, advancing peace through its 60-year collaboration with the UN, as well as grassroots initiatives such as the Rotarian Action Group for Peace.

Rotary's most significant effort to wage peace is the Rotary Peace Centers program, established in 2002. Each year, the program trains some of the world's most dedicated and brightest professionals, preparing them to promote national and international cooperation and to resolve conflict.

Forty years ago, Conrad Grebel University College established the first peace studies program at a Canadian university. With the establishment of the Balsillie School for International Affairs, the University of Waterloo has focused its reputation and resources to train students and provide research capacity to deal with global governance issues. Strategic partnerships with Rotarians around the world will utilize the experience and resources Waterloo has for creating a more peace-filled world.

Peace is more than just the absence of violence. Peace is ensuring there is justice for all.

Rotary has partnered with the Institute for Economics and Peace, an independent think tank and leader in the study of peace and conflict, to help address the root causes of conflict and create conditions that foster peace.
